Momentum Lost: Why Team Chemistry Matters in Church

Team chemistry is vital for synergy and key to group momentum. Synergy is simply getting more out of us than we can offer by ourselves. Good players know and execute their positions on the team. Good teams work together, creating synergy and leading to success, which leads to momentum. But when the team doesn't work together, it loses more than synergy; it loses momentum. Churches, like teams, need members who work well together, creating synergy and momentum.

“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose” (Philippians 2:1-2, NLT).

The local church isn't supposed only to be a repository of somewhat similar-thinking Christians. Yes, every local church should have an orthodox foundation (we celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the Nicaean Creed this year). But each local church has a unique flavor. The uniqueness of the local church is driven by where it is located, who God brings to the church, and how God has called the church to embrace His redemptive mission in their community and world. But what if people in your church don't get along? Your church will not only lose unity but also lose momentum!

What can you do today to help your teams unite and create momentum?
